Maltipoos combine the Maltese's affectionate, gentle nature with the Toy or Miniature Poodle's intelligence. They're one of the most popular apartment-friendly designer breeds, but 'apartment-friendly' doesn't mean 'no exercise needed.' Maltipoos are surprisingly active and develop behavioral problems — barking, anxiety, destructiveness — when they don't get enough walks.
2 walks per day, 15–20 minutes each, plus indoor play
Maltipoos don't need long hikes, but they do need consistent daily walks. Two short outings plus indoor play is ideal. They're sensitive to extreme temperatures — keep walks shorter in heat or cold. Mental stimulation through training games is just as important as physical exercise.
2–3 meals per day
Tiny dogs, tiny stomachs, fast metabolisms. Some Maltipoos do better with three small meals than two larger ones. Track carefully — even half an extra treat a day is significant for a 7-pound dog.
Daily to every-other-day brushing, professional grooming every 4–6 weeks
Maltipoo coats grow continuously and need frequent brushing to prevent matting. The hair around their eyes needs regular trimming to prevent staining and irritation. Professional grooming on a strict schedule is essential.
Recommended vet schedule: Annual exam, dental cleaning every 12–18 months
